Fullerton Chamber of Commerce 2015 Business Achievement awards will be formally presented during the Chamber’s annual Awards dinner on Wednesday, June 17 at the Summit House restaurant in Fullerton.
The celebratory dinner event, the Chamber’s flagship fundraising event, also serves as the installation of incoming 2015-16 Board of Directors, as well as the group’s annual meeting.
Large Business of the Year
Established in 1946 and with more than 80 highly-skilled workers today, Pacific Miniatures, Inc., the maker of high-impact, scale models and prototypes for marketing and educational exhibits in the aviation and aerospace industries, was named the Large Business of the Year. For the past five years the company has collaborated with All the Arts for All the Kids Foundation on a project that includes the public installation and sale of hearts decorated by local artists to fund art and music programs offered to school children at Fullerton elementary schools.
Medium Business of the Year
The Medium Business of the Year, a Downtown Fullerton staple, is Bourbon Street Bar & Grill. Employing 40 people, the restaurant has recently expanded its staff through a work-training program for students enrolled in special education programs within the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
Small Business of the Year
This year, two companies were selected in the small business category because they have each flourished and positively impacted the Fullerton community.
Gabrielle Mullinax, owner of Fullerton Photographics, Inc., has been nationally recognized as an innovator in the photographic industry. She has transformed the company into a “contemporary business with commercial viability at a time when all industry omens said she would fail,” said one nominating peer. Over the years, Mullinax and her staff have served many local charitable organizations, including Crittenton Services for Children and Families.
Family-owned and -operated Patty’s Cakes bakery was selected as the Chamber’s other Small Business of the Year. Mother and son team, Patty and Phillip Gomez, have deep ties to the Fullerton community and have consistently supported the Fullerton Rotary, Assistance League of Fullerton, and the Fullerton School District, to name a few.
Quality of Life Award
The Quality of Life Award goes to the Assistant League of Fullerton (ALF). Opened in 1940, the mission of ALF is to help needy families in Fullerton as well as Brea, Buena Park, La Habra, Placentia, and Yorba Linda. ALF offers numerous avenues for assistance, including its thrift store, which serves more than 25,000 customers annually. It also operates programs including Operation School Bell, Operation New Start, Vision Screening and Referral, Santa’s Closet, Meals on Wheels, and others.
