Description

The theme of the 2018 Annual Luncheon is "The Game Changer".

Be a game changer and join the luncheon to celebrate what have been accomplished this year, the opportunity to applaud the 2018 Women Adult Reentry Scholarship Recipients and hear their stories, and to welcome new and returning members joining our 2018-2019 Board of Directors. The even will take place on Saturday, June 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

For over 97 years, the YWCA of North Orange County has empowered thousands of women and their families through the Depression, world wars and throughout difficult social changes.

  • Since 1996, YMCA screened over 150,000 uninsured women for breast cancer. Hundreds of women discovered their breast cancer in the early stage who had no access to healthcare, saving precious lives.
  • Since 1964, YMCA have provided youth employment opportunities to over 108,000 at-risk, low income youth helping them become more competitive in the job market. Many were enrolled in career training programs making their future a little bit brighter.
  • Since 2002, over $120,000 in scholarships have been distributed to low-income Adult Reentry Women who attended Fullerton College and California State University Fullerton.
  • Since 2007, 2,100 high school girls from low-income families were able to attend their Prom with dignity, pride and self confidence through the Prom Project.
In 2018, a new program will be launched called: Peer2Peer: Digital Empowerment. This opportunity will train high school STEM students to go into middle school mentoring 6th and 7th grade girls attending a Title I school in the cities of Fullerton and Anaheim. The program will concentrate on teaching the middle school girls how to build a personal computer using Raspberri Pi3 processors, screens and keyboards. They will also learn how to code through interactive workshops. This program moves the YWCA of North Orange County into meeting 21st Century skills.
